Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire plan anti-poaching movie

Tom Hardy looks set to call in a couple of A-list chums to make his latest movie idea a reality, with he, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire producing a project exploring the animal-trafficking trade.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) , Hardy was inspired by the stories of some ex-Special Forces pals who went on to become anti-poaching fighters in South Africa, and is keen to explore the issue as the basis for a Hollywood drama.

Apparently, the idea is to create a multi-stranded story in the vein of Traffic , taking a look at the various impacts of the trade, from the ground war on poaching in Africa, to the distribution of fur through the fashion houses of Paris.

Hardy is currently in talks with Warner Bros, where he is held in particularly high regard after his work on Inception and The Dark Knight Rises . DiCaprio and Maguire are also nice and cosy with the studio, with both starring in Warner’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby .

Hardy also has an untitled biker project in the works at Warner, and his stock as a producer is clearly on the up. The poaching project is currently looking for a writer, but with three such big-name stars already attached (albeit in a producing capacity only at this moment), we could see this one on the fast-track sooner rather than later.
