But not as an anthology series
Tales From The Crypt is set to return to TV, but not as an anthology series, according to Deadline (opens in new tab) .
The show, based on the 1950s EC Horror Comics, originally ran for seven series on HBO from 1989 to 1996, and spawned two spin-off movies. Each episode was a self-contained story introduced by the Cryptkeeper (left)
Now, Gil Adler, producer on the original series, and Andrew Cosby, co-creator of Eureka and co-founder of comic book publisher, are planning a new hour-long Crypt series, but one that would have running characters and storylines.
“It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context,” says Cosby. “It’s all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.”
A detailed pitch and a bible for the new Crypt series have been completed, and the producers will now begin shopping it round the networks, trying to find a home (apparently, HBO is interested again, so it could end up being a truly gory horror series).
