Ubisoft is equipping Assassin’s Creed III with a new multiplayer mode, and it appears the mega-studio has picked its own Ubisoft Annecy developer to lead the charge. The Assassin’s Creed III multiplayer team will be guided in part by Tim Browne, who recently updated his Twitter profile to read :“Lead Game Designer on Assassin’s Creed III Multiplayer @Ubisoft-Annecy.”
Ubisoft Annecy is no stranger to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It developed the series’ first multiplayer mode in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and chipped in on the online component for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Ubisoft’s France-based studio has also worked on the multiplayer for Ubisoft’s other stealth series, Splinter Cell; specifically, the Chaos Theory sequel.
Tim Browne, meanwhile, has been in the industry for a number of years. Past works include lead positions on Operation Flashpoint: Red River, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
Very little is known about Assassin’s Creed III’s multiplayer. Assuming it is based on the single player campaign, expect to be leaping around battlefields and colonial settlements during the 18th century American Revolution. This means Ubisoft Annecy won’t be able to dust off its Renaissance maps from the past two entries, but instead be building a whole new world from the ground up.
