Lionsgate and Summit has dropped a full-length trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant, the third chapter in its second-best dystopian teen saga. Playing second fiddle to The Hunger Games hasn’t stopped the franchise from attracting a star-studded cast and blockbuster budgets, as evidenced in this action-heavy trailer.
Shailene Woodley returns as Tris, the divergent heroine who this time rallies against the overseers with the help of Theo James’ Four. Together they strive to bring freedom to all those held captive by the wall surrounding Chicago. It’s not going to be as simple as getting a mammoth-sized wrecking ball.
The trouble that overshadows the film, and plagues the trailer, is that we know the events are a precursor to the final movie, Ascendant. Much like Mockingjay – Part 1 remained steady to prepare us for its showstopping finale, Allegiant threatens to do the same. Co-starring Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Jeff Daniels and directed by Robert Schwenke The Divergent Series: Allegiant opens in the UK and US on March 18, 2016.
