Mass Effect: Andromeda voice acting contest

If you have the acting chops, your voice can reach a fictional version of the stars in Mass Effect: Andromeda (opens in new tab). Assuming you’re not reading this in some far-future archive of The-Internet-That-Was, you probably won’t live long enough to travel to Andromeda, let alone another star system, so you might as well take what you can get.

BioWare is recruiting potential voice talent (opens in new tab) for two roles in Mass Effect: Andromeda via the Explorers Wanted Contest. Just record yourself reading from one of two scripts – the first (opens in new tab) casts you as an eager documentarian interviewing Ryder about their adventures, the second (opens in new tab) as a hardened mercenary enjoying life on the frontier – upload it and send a link to explorers@bioware.com. Video or audio is fine. Then you can share it on social media with the #ExplorersWanted hashtag to drum up popular support.

The contest will end on September 27 at 11:59 pm PDT / September 28 at 7:59 am BST. A panel of BioWare employees will pick a winner, who will be notified by November 30, and then said winner will be given an expenses-paid trip to BioWare’s recording studios to do the final performance. Try to get it right in the first take, since the game is supposed to be out by early 2017.

I’m always a bit wary of contests that boil down to “do some work for us for free and we may decide to reward you with more unpaid work”. But becoming a permanent piece of Mass Effect’s new galaxy does sound pretty cool.
