The Avengers 2 has been allotted a US release date, with the superhero sequel set to land in Stateside cinemas on 1 May 2015, with a UK release likely to fill a similar slot.
The announcement doesn’t come as a massive surprise, with Marvel recently announcing that director Joss Whedon would be working with the studio through until 2015. That role will include directing the Avengers sequel, as well as overseeing Marvel’s other projects.
The Avengers 2 will mark the completion of “Phase Two”, with Marvel’s marquee superheroes all getting solo sequels before their collective return. Iron Man 3 will arrive on 3 May 2013, Thor: The Dark World on 8 November 2013 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier on 4 April 2014.
We’ll also have received the Guardians Of The Galaxy film by the time Avengers 2 arrives, with that project pencilled in for 1 August 2014. The film will see the introduction of the villain Thanos, last seen in the post-credits scene of The Avengers .
There’s even talk that Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man movie might finally arrive before then, although whether or not he joins up with the other Avengers remains to be seen. In any case, it stands to be a busy few years for Marvel. Over to you, D.C….
