A few weeks ago we reported the incredibly sad news that the Ukrainian developer of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series had been shut down, thus shattering any hopes of the highly-anticipated game being finished. Apparently, that might not be the case. Yesterday, the developer updated the game’s official Facebook page with news that should make fans very, very happy.
“The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays,” it posted, though no additional information was given at the time. Rumors are that CEO and founder Sergei Grigorovich wasn’t happy with progress on the game and may have pulled his support from the company, but that hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. Today, a GSC spokesperson Oleg Yavorsky told Edge that despite being back at work on the game, it’s still not completely in the clear. “We are still in the process of seeking funding to back up the project,” Yavorsky said. “We are hopeful things turn out well eventually. The team really wants to see STALKER continue.”
Hopefully the game finds a publisher or GSC is picked up by another developer, otherwise we might find ourselves crying radioactive tears all over again in a few months when whatever money it has left dries up again.
