According to an announcement from THQ today, their upcoming expansion toSaints Row: The Third (opens in new tab)has been cancelled. Enter the Dominatrix was intended to be a standalone package running for $29.99, but THQ says they now have other plans.
However, it’s not all bad. If you were excited about the direction Enter the Dominatrix was taking (read: insane superpowers,) then you can rest easy knowing that the content of EtD will be folded into the next game in the series. In fact, the way THQ president Jason Rubin tells it, it sounds like Enter the Dominatrix was expanded into a full sequel.
“When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” says Rubin. “I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”
Rubin seems to be doubling down on the Saints Row franchise, and we’ll have to wait a year or more to see if it pays off. Or maybe they just decided the window of opportunity for Matrix jokes had passed, and a game called “Saints Row: The Fourth” would sell better.
