New Mega Man cartoon set to launch on franchises 30th anniversary

A Mega Man cartoon is in development thanks to a partnership between Dentsu Entertainment USA, Man of Action Entertainment and Capcom, reports (opens in new tab) Deadline. Man of Action Entertainment will create the 26-episode series, which will supposedly air sometime in 2017 to coincide with the Blue Bomber’s 30th anniversary.

Interestingly enough, it may wind up competing for viewers against an animated Mighty No. 9 (opens in new tab) show, which is also in development (opens in new tab). Mighty No. 9, in case you’re just catching up, is the successfully-Kickstarted franchise from the original creator of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune. The current Mighty No. 9 release date (opens in new tab) is September 15 – that’s for the game, not the TV show, mind you.

Even so, it’s Mega Man who has experience working in television. Capcom’s much-loved robot was also adapted to the small screen way back in 1994 in a show simply called “Mega Man.” It … wasn’t very good. But hey, at least this new series can’t be any worse (opens in new tab) than Mega Man 8, right?

Lastly, in case production company Man of Action doesn’t ring any bells, perhaps projects that it’s produced will: Ben 10, Generator Rex and the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon all feature work from the company.
