Mike Colter explains how Luke Cage will be different from Jessica Jones and Daredevil

Though Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man were well received by the masses, it’s arguably their small screen projects which have been the studios’ best work this year. Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones made a big impact when they debuted on Netflix, and it’s a safe bet that the same will be true of Luke Cage when his solo series hits next year.

Mike Colter – who introduced audiences to Cage in Jessica Jones – has been speaking to Collider (opens in new tab) about how his show will be different to what’s come before: “I feel like they all have their own story and their own thing that they’re doing, and they’re not going to be compared to one another, except for the fact that they are in the same genre.

“Jessica’s storyline is so different from Daredevil’s storyline. Daredevil’s storyline is so different from mine. There’s a social aspect involved with Luke Cage, there is a criminal element involved, and there is a procedural element involvement. We focus on a variety of different things. I think it will be a surprise.”

Certainly, both Daredevil and Jessica Jones have brought their own unique flavours to the MCU, and the “social aspect” Colter mentions could be the a big factor in establishing the series’ own tone. What will be really interesting is seeing how all the characters’ worlds and tones will combine when The Defenders eventually rolls around. But now we’re getting ahead of ourselves…

Season 1 of Luke Cage will debut on Netflix in 2016.
