Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes continues to perform strongly for Fox, having enjoyed a second weekend on top of the US box office.
Whilst many had been surprised by the strength of its opening weekend, the monkey-led spectacular lost less than half of its original takings in round two, with $27.5 million pushing its domestic total over the $100 million mark.
However, the apes weren’t to have it all their own way, with literary adaptation The Help pulling in $25.5 million to take second place. That represents a more than respectable performance from a film few had expected to appeal beyond fans of the source material.
In third place is another new release, with $18.4 million representing a slightly disappointing return for Final Destination 5 . Meanwhile, The Smurfs continued to punch above their weight with a $13.5 million weekend, narrowly edging fellow Sony comedy 30 Minutes Or Less into fifth place with $13 million.
Blockbuster heavyweights Cowboys And Aliens and Captain America continued to plod along in sixth and seventh place respectively, with both films adding a further $7 million to their coffers. Crazy Stupid Love made just shy of that, leaving it a respectable eighth in the chart.
Harry Potter still refuses to go quietly, with another $6.8 million leaving it in ninth place, whilst The Change-Up completes the top 10 after another disappointing weekend saw it add just $6.2 million to its overall haul.
Oh, and for those of you looking for Glee The 3D Concert Movie amongst the top 10, look elsewhere. It made just $5.7 million from its opening weekend. Time to knock it on the head? One can only hope…
