A Field In England will get simultaneous cinema, DVD and TV release in the UK

If you’re looking forward to seeing Ben Wheatley’s A Field In England (and after the astonishing run of Down Terrace , Kill List and Sightseers , you should be), it looks like you’ll have plenty of viewing options.

The psychedelic Civil War flick will be the first UK film to be released in cinemas, on DVD, on free TV (on Film4) and on VoD when it arrives on 5 July 2013.

Benefitting from funding support from the BFI Distribution Fund New Models strand (after being financed and developed through Film4’s new-fangled innovation hub Film4.0), there will also be a tie in ‘digital masterclass’ released around the same time.

Wheatley said of the release model, “It’s great to team up with Film4 to make this film and to work with new partners such as Picturehouse and 4DVD. We have tried to innovate with this film, in production and distribution. I’m very proud of the results and look forward to sharing the film with the audience.”

The film, which evades any easy genre classification, sees a group of deserters searching for hidden treasure, before being waylaid by the after effects of a mushroom feast.

You can watch it – in your preferred format – when it’s released in the UK on 5 July 2013.
