You’ll be able to play Halo 5: Guardians (opens in new tab) on Oculus Rift, but it may not be the kind of virtual reality you’re expecting. Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed that Microsoft and Oculus are partnering to make the virtual reality headset work with Xbox One game streaming and Windows 10.
Microsoft’s already talked about how you’ll be able to stream your Xbox One games to Windows 10 devices. If you have an Oculus Rift hooked up to your PC, you’ll also be able to stream them into a “virtual cinema” on the headset. A brief demo reel showed a woman playing Forza Horizon 2 (opens in new tab) in a virtual living room – in other words, she was looking at a 3D image of a 2D screen, though she could also look around to check out her virtual furniture.
Oculus Rift will also work “natively” with Windows 10, meaning you should be able to plug it in and start playing immediately. And don’t forget that each first-generation Oculus Rift will come bundled with an Xbox One controller (opens in new tab) and wireless adapter, too.
