Destiny: Rise of Iron hands you the keys to the Crucible with private matches

Destiny (opens in new tab) expansion Rise of Iron (opens in new tab) will add two much-requested features to the game’s PvP when it launches September 20: private matches and clans (opens in new tab). Praise the Iron Lords, hallelujah.

What this means is that if you want to set up a match with just your friends, you can do that. If you want to explore the PvP maps by yourself and enjoy the scenery, you can do that. You’ll create your own lobby with your choice of game type, map, score limit, time limit, and Light level restrictions. Certain maps will also let you choose the time of day and vehicle spawns.

The lobbies you create can also display your clan affiliation if you have one. So if you and your buddies have a special club set up, you can show off to anyone who joins your match. It’s just a little display with your clan name, but hey, the whole point of being in a clan is to represent, right?

With the addition of these features, Destiny takes another step closer to the matchmaking style of Bungie’s previous franchise, a little series called Halo.
