JK Rowlings early Harry Potter sketches features Peeves, Snape, and more

You might’ve thought that Harry Potter’s story was done after the Deathly Hallows Part 2 back in 2011, but between the release of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script and the upcoming spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (opens in new tab) the franchise is more alive than ever. It all stemmed from the mind of author J.K. Rowling, who has taken to Pottermore to reveal some early Harry Potter sketches she drew back in the 90’s.

Most of these sketches depict scenes from Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone, and they give us a fresh look at familiar characters such as Severus Snape – who would ultimately be brought to life memorably by Alan Rickman on screen – in addition to Peeves, Dumbledore, and McGonagall. One illustration includes a character called Gary, whom Rowling has since confirmed went on to become Dean Thomas (opens in new tab).

In addition to showing off Rowling’s impressive drawing skills these illustrations are a fun tidbit for Harry Potter fans, and with three Hogwarts-focused short stories written by Rowling coming in September there’s still plenty to look forward to.

Directed by David Yates and starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, Ron Perlman, and Ezra Miller, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to hit UK and US cinemas on November 18, 2016.
